Software Engineer Backend

Rotterdam - Fulltime - Team: Product

The digitalization in the Dutch real estate market is still in its infancy compared to other countries. You can have a significant impact by adding meaningful value to the (rental) process.

About TreeHouse

  • Every month, we assist over 3 million home seekers in finding a new home. We operate in the Netherlands under various labels:
  • Our rental housing platforms Pararius.nl and Huurwoningen.nl
In addition, we provide software to real estate agents to list their properties online through Pararius Office.
  • We generate the best leads for real estate agents with our label Leadflow.
  • We offer our housing data to municipalities and real estate developers through our label Realstats.

Additionally, we have recently expanded to the UK with our rental housing platform Rentaroof.co.uk!

We operate from offices in Rotterdam and Breda with 65 enthusiastic team members. Despite our substantial growth as an organization, we work in small-scale, multidisciplinary teams. Each location has its own goals, which means there is a strong focus on developing products. You will have a lot of freedom to contribute to this.

What are you going to do?

You will become part of the team that’s responsible for our Dutch and international labels focused on the rental market, helping homeseekers to find their new home. Together with the team you ensure that the most vital processes of these labels are running and performing. For this you continuously monitor and improve the processing of listings (houses), paid subscriptions and new listing notifications sent out to the homeseeker. Oh, and keep the labels up and running of course.

  • So what are we talking about exactly?
  • We send out millions of email per month
  • We process thousands of listings every day
  • We have millions of visitors each month
  • We handle hundreds of subscriptions per week

We do this by continuously applying updates, safeguarded by a CI/CD pipeline allowing us to deploy safe and fast to our production environment.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of backend and frontend developers and UX designers. Together with your colleagues you will work on one or more epics in sprints of two weeks. The epics are refined together with the product owner.

Who we are looking for

We expect you to have a good amount of experience in our stack, existing out of the following:

  • PHP and the Symfony framework, using a Hexagonal architecture
  • Postgres, Elasticsearch and Redis
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Unit, integration and acceptance testing, using PHPUnit and Codeception
  • Cloud hosted infrastructure, preferably Google Cloud.

Sharing knowledge is part of our DNA, so you feel comfortable with pair programming and coaching less experienced colleagues and interns. You are a real team player but you’re also able to do things by yourself. You’re not afraid to ask for help and know how to get things done. You don’t need to know everything, we provide all the opportunity to improve upon your skills, that are evaluated on a regular basis.

Our vision

We believe progress is essential as we want you to keep growing continuously, just like the entire organization. This means that you, along with your team, can think outside the box and try out new ideas and concepts when needed. We value the ability to fully utilize the knowledge and skills of our engineers and collectively arrive at the best solutions. You're smart enough, so it would be a waste not to use that, right? What matters most is your passion for coding and your proactive approach.

What can you expect from us?

We have high expectations of you. In return, you can expect from us:

  • A laptop to work on, with a big screen attached to it.
  • We have an informal work environment and value a good atmosphere and individuality. In other words, you can be yourself here.
  • Enthusiastic, young colleagues and an inspiring office in a unique location in Rotterdam (Blaak 555) with a fantastic view of the city.
  • We have communal lunches, enjoy a drink together on Fridays (or Thursdays), and organize various fun team outings throughout the year.
  • We offer competitive benefits, including a pension plan where we cover 70% of the costs.

Does this sound like the ideal job to you? Then we would love to receive your motivation and recent work experience. You can include your resume, but instead, we would prefer to learn more about the websites and blogs you frequently read, the podcasts you listen to, the conferences you have attended, and anything else that you believe demonstrates who you are and what you can do. In other words, we would rather receive your GitHub account than a statically formatted resume. Also take a look at our labels and see if we can improve things.

Are you unsure if you're good enough? We don't believe in that. We don't bite, and in the worst case, we can provide you with some tips to help you improve. So, what's there to lose?!
